Ms. Chan Mi Won: The journey of working at NTQ Korea

Ms. ChanMi Won (Mai) joined NTQ Korea in May 2022. She was in charge of the Sale Manager, with the responsibility of expanding NTQ's business operations in the Korean market. Ms. ChanMi has lived and worked in Korea for 15 years. She experienced and learned a lot throughout that period. Let's find out and discover this exciting journey of ChanMi!

In a connecting program between the Korean government and Southeast Asian nation's universities 2006, ChanMi obtained a full scholarship to Korea. Since then, she has made the decision to settle in Korea and be fully committed to this beautiful nation.

ChanMi was taken aback by the Korean people's order, norms, and neatness in her first few days in this country. Typically, she observed Korean pupils standing in a neat line before the bus even came. She believes that Korea is a truly civilized and hopeful country.

ChanMi had various "cultural shocks" and challenges when she lived in Korea. She recalled her "first shock": "I was genuinely astonished when I learned that after a year of learning Korean, my language level is still quite low to be able to pursue a university program in Korea. You'll have to explore, do a lot of independent research and learning when you're in college. For students from other countries like me, the Korean  university curriculum is incredibly difficult. However, after putting in a lot of effort to learn languages in 4 years at university, I graduated and got a job at a big Korean company”.

Ms. ChanMi Won also encountered difficulties with the numerous implicit norms. She said that the workplace environment in Korea required workers to always continually learn, and to race to "win" challenging positions in order to improve their ability. She therefore asserted that this is undoubtedly not an easy thing for new employees who lack confidence as well as lack experience dealing with proposals from superiors.

She always keeps in mind that Korea is a great place to work as long as she ignores the differences and actively explores ideals worth pursuing and learning more about. And one of the things that helps a person easily adapt to life abroad is to always maintain a positive outlook on challenges and show genuine affection for the locals. No challenge is insurmountable! The key is you must have a positive outlook, which will make everything become simpler. You will encounter certain challenges wherever you go. Instead of focusing on these challenges, consider the advantages to adapting to and blending into the new surroundings.

Her life has gradually gotten into orbit after a period of many surprises. At this time, ChanMi joined NTQ Korea. "I worked as a sales manager and senior salesperson for five years. So when NTQ needed a new component for NTQ Korea, the NTQ's HR departments offered me this work. Although there were initially a lot of uncertainties when considering changing the environment, I was able to sense the welcoming of the Board Of Manager and every member of NTQ Solution. Therefore I made the decision to join NTQ” ChanMi said.
